backlog-grooming

v1.1plugin maintenance

Reduce work while keeping clear user value, technical correctness and maintainability. Every issue gets one treatment, a tentative estimate and the evidence behind it. A small backlog is not the goal by itself; necessary work stays.

Install

npx skills@latest add uberblick-ai/skills --skill backlog-grooming

Works in Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenCode and the other agents the skills CLI supports. npx skills update keeps it current.

Use it

Ask your agent in plain words. Any of these will do:

  • "Groom the backlog for the 1.4 milestone."
  • "What can we cut to ship sync sooner?"
  • "Which open issues are already delivered?"
  1. Agrees on the goal and scope in chat: the whole repository, a milestone or a project, and whether you want a smaller backlog or a named outcome sooner.
  2. Reads every open issue in scope, linked deliveries, blockers and, where one exists, the product corpus.
  3. Challenges each issue and recommends one treatment with a tentative effort estimate.
  4. Asks a separate agent to argue against the large or disputed calls, and labels the rows it challenged.
  5. Settles material choices with you in chat, then renders Less work. More value. as HTML and JSON.
  6. Changes issues only when you ask. A dry run changes nothing.

What it recommends

Keep
the work still earns its place
Narrow
a smaller outcome is enough
Combine
fold it into another issue, scope carried over
Defer
not now, not gone
Close delivered
it already shipped
Close unnecessary
no remaining user, technical or maintenance benefit
Track only
a parent or tracker, never queued as a delivery

Requirements

Needspython3 for the report; gh and git for evidence.
Optionala product corpus, and ub-agents loop eligibility per issue.
Leavesreport.html and report.json. Recommendations, decisions and applied actions stay separate.
